I sincerely hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. As the New Year approaches I am hoping for a more prosperous economic year for our Post.
There will be some changes at the Post, some will not be very popular but necessary just the same. I must impress upon you, the membership, that in these economic hard times the Post needs your help and support more than ever. We cannot continue to run our veteran and community service programs or a first class restaurant and lounge unless you the members support it. As I travel around the county I see many members of our Post at other clubs and lodges yet very rarely see them at their own Post. Please understand that in order for the Post to remain open and viable it needs your support. You must come and participate at meetings. I find it disheartening that the members that complain the most never attend a meeting and rarely visit the Post. The economic survival of our Post depends on you.
When I became Commander I promised that I would not write anything negative in the Reveille and I want to keep that promise, however there are certain individuals that seem to thrive on spreading rumors and discontent. I cannot stop them from saying what they want for indeed I served and fought for their right to speak freely, though they may be completely misinformed. What I would like the membership to do is to not listen to those who spread gossip and rumors, come to the meetings if you have questions. To those members that originate and spread rumors please remember the old adage; it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt. I apologize for the negativity but sometimes things have to be spelled out.
On an up note, I would like to introduce our new Chef Carl Young. Carl has worked at several local restaurants including Brusco’s Italian Restaurant, The Cove Restaurant and Frank’s Ristorante. I invite you to come in and try Carl’s cuisine.
